2016 Nevada sportsbook win falls on record handle; b-ball down, football up

The Nevada Gaming Control Board released their 2016 financial performance figures, which show that the state saw an overall decline in December gaming revenue, which dropped down to $956.1 million, or 2.7% less than in 2015. At the same time, the all-year gaming wins increased by 1.3%, to $11.25 billion.

From the casino side, the biggest table earner in Nevada was once again Baccarat, which brought the state $1.22 billion, or 5.3% less than last year, and generated wins in the amount of $172.8 million, or 3.3% lower than 2015.  Right behind Baccarat were Blackjack games, which accounted for $1.14 billion in earnings, or 4.3% more than the previous year, but saw a 7.3% decline in wins, generating $89.8million. The third highest table earners were craps games, with $384 million, followed by roulette, which saw an 8.9% increase to $351 million. Slots, on the other hand, generated $7.16 billion.

When it comes to sports betting revenue, Nevada’s sportsbooks saw a 3% increase to $19 million in December, most of which was due to football, which reached $13.9million, or 54.5% more than last year, while basketball declined to $6.4 million, or 27% less than in December 2015. But what’s interesting to note is that the sportsbooks had a record $4.5 billion handle in 2016, $1.7 billion of which was owed to football.

At the same time, while the revenue had an uptick, the total win fell by 5.4% in 2016, or $219.2 million. Football was the only sport that had a positive win performance when compared to last year, generating 91.2million or 10.5% more than 2015, while baseball fell by 18.2% to $32.2million and basketball by 8.7% to $66.6 million.
